The Girls' Club was founded in 1896 by Rachael Wolfsohn and assisted by her sister, Eva Wolfsohn in San Francisco, Calif. The Girls' Club was originally a gathering place for girls to provide cultural and artistic enrichment for young girls and opportunities to attend public musical and drama performances, as well as stage their own productions. Many former members went on to careers or extensive involvement in the arts. In 1942 the Girls' Club became part of the Mission Community Center and since 1958, is known as the Mission Neighborhood Centers.
